    Losing focus near the end?

Hi all, I too am going through this right now. I felt relief when I read the title of this thread - I'm not the only one! I am 132k words into the first draft of my project and man is it a slog re reading and editing. The title of my book is "The Killing Doubt" and I am beginning a may have...

Reasons why you SHOULD read WoT (no spoilers).

Hey Leisha, I think it is a fine line an author has to tread between 'enticing' and 'too much'. As a reader looking for epic fantasy, I think Jordan has done an exemplary job in this opener - I don't what it is when I put on my own 'author' cap but I just get a bit more cynical, hence my...

Reasons why you SHOULD read WoT (no spoilers).

I just started reading the first book - I am reading from a writers perspective and have, so far, found the writing to be very good, if a little long winded. The world building aspect is particularly well done but in those first 200 pages or so I did think perhaps there is too much going on...

What writing platforms do you use?

Scrivener is the only thing you will ever need and once you have used it you will curse the days before you were aware of its existence.

First critique - The Killing Doubt

Wow thanks TEiN and Percival for your in depth critiques. It really is useful. Appreciate the comments on pacing percival - tbh i was trying to make this fast paced but i guess i get bogged down in the description. Finding that balance between pace and describing something epic is a difficult...

    1st critique

Hey springs, I just finished reading this first piece and will leave my initial thoughts for you. I noticed you had posted a follow up and so will also give that a read. So, first things first, others before me have picked up on the grammar and some of the same negative points I felt while...

First critique - The Killing Doubt

Hey thanks springs, i appreciate that. I will get myself over to your piece and lend a critique myself. Regarding the time, I meant in real life! It seems like I have no time these days : ) Sorry should have been clearer Chrispenycate, as always your posts are of the utmost (upmost?) value -...

First critique - The Killing Doubt

Hey chrispenycate and springs, Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated. As you can see I do need to get up on my grammar. I think my problem is I use a comma for a dramatic pause - I note, chrispeny, that you pick up on alot of comma issues - should I not be doing this 'dramatic pause'? Is...

First critique - The Killing Doubt

Hey everyone, i hope all is well. I managed to get the first couple of chapters written, here is a section of the opening - it is a first draft of course and so there are bound to be mistakes, my apologies for these. Your opinions on any point are welcome and valuable - I feel like at some...

1.07 Game of Thrones - You Win or You Die

I think the scene was necessary in order to justify to an audience who may not have read the books why Littlefinger does what he does at the end. For me the 'I told you not to trust me' reference would not have been enough to justify the betrayal. The whole (sex) scene was perhaps therefore...

1.07 Game of Thrones - You Win or You Die

Well you have answered your own question. This scene reveals more of Littlefinger's character. It is not nice. He says in this scene something along the lines of "They use their swords and their might. I cannot do this so I am going to **** them." I think the subject matter and the scene...

1.07 Game of Thrones - You Win or You Die

just got around to watching this episode and I have to say I thought it was excellent and the best so far. THere were some excellent shots and one of the first things I thought was that the director had done an excellent job with this episode. Favourite scene was between Jaime and Tywin...

What Game Are You Currently Playing?

Just finished F.E.A.R. 2 on the xbox - was awesome although the sexually violent ending was weird as well as a let down. Looking forward to the third installment though.

1.04 Game of Thrones - Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things

Just wanted to add that I agree with Memnoch on the disappointment with the Hand's Tourney - was not even approaching the epicness i had in my minds eye - there was like 70 people there!

1.04 Game of Thrones - Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things

I enjoyed it. I keep thinking though, jeez, if I had not read the books prior this would be a difficult one to follow. Like others had said before me, they are progressing at pace....I hope this does not put newcomers off.

    Novel opening for you...

Not much to say on this last section other than I liked it. Healthy doses of intrigued if indeed slightly shadow by the quantity of ideas and info you allude to. Nice work, look forward to see what others say and to reading more.

1.02 Game of Thrones - The Kings Road

I really enjoyed this episode as well. I do believe that Tyrion will be my favourite character. My girlfriend is also hooked with this episode - i had to laugh as she gives me some good stick with being into the 'geeky' SF stuff. That will teach her!

What was the last movie you saw?

Just watched Lars Von Triers AntiChrist. The first 4/5s are beautifully directed and I was thinking that I must watch more Von Trier - some beautiful imagery and an interesting subject. Now, I had heard about all the controversy surrounding this film but being a horror fan i was quite...

Just watched Game of Thrones episode 1

I thought the whitewalkers looked really cool. Didn't know hwat I was expecting but the image worked for me. I also enjoyed the direction in this 'prologue' scene, had a nice horror flavour too it which I suppose sets the whole 'Wall Scene' up nicely. I mean come on, The Wall looked EPIC!

Just watched Game of Thrones episode 1

Wow, I really enjoyed it - set the scene and characters up nicely. Especially liked Jon and Tyrion - great acting. Laughed out loud at some of Tyrions comments which is promising. Dinklage looks as though he is really enjoying the role. Can't wait for ep 2. Looking forward to reading what...
