July's Jaw-dropping, occasionally Jargonistic and often Jubilant Stories

Just finished reading The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. Great novel. The subject matter of a world-wide nuclear holocaust reflects the zeitgeist from the time it was written but its still a classic. For a novel written in the 1950's, It doesn't seem terribly out of date. I got the sense the...

Ender: too much of a good thing?

Speaker For the Dead is the sequel. Xenocide (which I haven't read) supposedly comes after that. Ender's Shadow parallel's Ender's Game...it tells the story of Bean, who was a minor character in Ender's Game. There's also a series of sequals for Ender's Shadow, including Shadow of The...

    Ender's Game

Harrison Ford is a good pick. Ben Kingsly is a good actor and may be a good pick for Mazer. I heard this movie is combining elements of Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow so I recently read the later. I read Ender's Game years ago. I thought Shadow was just as good, if not better.

June's Joyous Journey To Janiform Characters and Juxtaposed Texts

I recently finished reading Ender's Shadow in preparation and anticipation for the upcoming screen adaption of Ender's Game (which I read years ago). I'm now reading The Windup Girl by....that new author who's name no one can pronounce.

November's Noble Neutralising of Literary Nadirs

I've heard it follows a similar format but is over 800 pages long. I don't have the time right now for a book of that length. Maybe I'll be able to read it on a vacation. I've decided to read The Difference Engine for my next book.

November's Noble Neutralising of Literary Nadirs

I just finished reading John Brunner's The Sheep Look Up. That was very depressing, a bit prognostic for its time, and very confusing with all the characters and side-stories.

October's Organised Operation Of Oracling Omnigeneous Ouevres

September's Studious Search For Sonorous Snippets

I just finished reading The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. As a matter of personal preference, it was one of the best novels I've read this year. I'd recommend this to anyone.

September's Studious Search For Sonorous Snippets

I hear that's a great one. I plan to read that but want to read The Forever War first. I just finished The Philip K. Dick Reader, a collection of short stories mostly from the 1950's. The stories are a little dated, as themes include fear of Communism, fear of nuclear war, distrust of...

August's August Analysis Of Artful Alliterations

Yeah, I agree it's a little hard to get past the "Looney" dialect.

August's August Analysis Of Artful Alliterations

I just finished reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. It was a very good book...very political and draws parallels to the American and October revolutions. Several Heinlein fans cite this novel as their favorite but for me, it is not. I have yet to read Time Enough for Love...

July's Jesuitical Journeyings Through Literary Juxtapositions

Finally finished The Handmaid's Tale. Just started The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. This will take a while because I haven't had much time for leisure reading during the past two months.

June's Jovial Journey into Joyous Literary Jaunts

Great book, I've heard. I've got that on my Kindle but won't get around to reading it for a little while. the Sheep Look Up, which I believe is by the same author is further up on my list. Right now, I'm reading The HandMaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. The going is slow because I don't have...

    May's Marvellously Mysterious Manuscript Meanderings

Now reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. The theme is a dystopian America run by an oppressive Christian Theocracy.

    May's Marvellously Mysterious Manuscript Meanderings

Man in the High Castle and Scanner Darkly are my favorites. I haven't read the Valis series or Palmer Eldridge yet. Ubik was a bit cheesy but enjoyable for me and Flow My Tears' ending just seemed too implausible.

    What Asimov book.....

The moon's gravitational pull on the earth affects more than the tides. The moon helps keep the earth's axis of rotation relatively stable. Without it, the Earth might wobble like Mars (Mars has two small moons). Without a stable axis of rotation, day-night cycles would change and the polar...
