New king of fantasy is coming

Well, Sapkowski is certainly the best Polish fantasy/historical fiction writer, and a very original one at that. His books have already been translated into many languages, including German, Chech, Russian and many others.I do heartily recommend reading his witcher Geralt series when they come...

Your favourite Malazan novel to date

OK, I know this has been done many times before, especially on the Erikson board, but still, I'm quite curious about which volume of the saga is your favourite and why? Personally, I don't agree with the usual choice - that is, the Deadhouse Gates was my least fav novel. I read The Gardens of...

The Malazan Books of the Fallen - Doorstop Fantasy at its finest?

I'd say we're in for several surprises in Bonehunters... maybe even, say, some reappearances of seemingly dead characters from MOI(Ok, just a wishful thinking on my part, but there were precedences in this series already like Toc, for instance) I've finished the series already and can't wait to...

    December Fantasy Suggestions

I'd like to nominate John Wright's The Last Guardian of Everness. I liked very much his SF trilogy that started with The Golden Age, and am very curious how he does a fantasy story.

    Reading in October

I've read The One Kingdom and liked it. The plot and characters maintained my interest throughout the novel. I'm going to read the second volume soon. I do already own it, but the final book still hasn't been translated into Polish and because of that I would rather wait and read the entire...

Fantasy&SF books which are easy to read in English? HELP NEEDED

:D In Poland all 5 books have been translated (Midnight Tides a year ago) an the Blood Follows as well. We're waiting for the Healthy Dead and the Bonehunters should come out in April. (OK, I know you haven't asked but I wrote this just in case...) As for books that are easy to read in...

    SF series discussion

I'd like to nominate John C Wright's trilogy about Phaeton, The Golden Age trilogy, and CJ Cherryh's The Faded Sun Trilogy. We could discuss the winning series in November . However, if anyone has an idea of how to make this thread more interesting, or maybe other proposals, please share them...

The books ordinary fans hate but you love

Yes, I've read the Dragonfly but it's not about Ged and The Other Wind is on my to be read pile of books. Anyway, when I read Earthsea for the first time,The Other Wind didn't exist so I've always considered Tehanu the ending... glad there's more to discover yet.

    How much d'you buy?

Wow! I've seen Vellum by Hal Duncan and a book by Robin Hobb! ANd errm.. Charles Stross' Singularity Sky and supposedly The Market Forces by Richard Morgan, judging by the multicolour cover? Would that I were you!:D Fortunately, I've already bought and read the second Steph Swinston book and...

    How many..........

I still live with my parents, both of them avid readers, so 'the books I have' aren't really mine, and of course I haven't read them all (or even half of them, I'm afraid...). I tried to count them, and I'd reckon we have a total of ca. 7000 books, about 1400 of which are sci-fi and fantasy (my...

The books ordinary fans hate but you love

I liked Tehanu very much as well, although I wouldn't go as far as to name it my favourite Earthsea novel. But I think this book is the one in which we get to know Ged better, as a person and not as a mage. His power, after all, was not what counted most. I thought this was a bit sad, but...

    Oct-Series Discussion-The Fionavar Tapestry

Yes. Interesting, isn't it?:D It was more of a sacrifice, anyway, sex with a goddess in order to persuade her to act. And, needless to say, mere mortals cannot survive such an experience:eek: . I liked the Fionavar Tapestry very much, especially because of the characters. Most of them were...

    Maps and the Fantasy Novel

Personally, I like maps very much. I just want to know where the action takes place and what places remain to be discovered (like in Malazan series, for instance - I was glad to be able to lurk and see where ie. the Pannion Domin was when still reading GoTM). Besides, I believe that not...

    November SciFi Poll

I've voted for Pandora's Star. I wanted to read this book anyway, so here's the chance:D . I could have voted for charles Stross' book as well, but I've recently bought Iron Sunrise and want to read that title first and check out whether I like it or not before I buy Accelerando (no libraries...

    C J Cherryh books

Well, Princess, glad you enjoyed Hammerfall. I still haven't read it but am planning to do so.. as soon as I buy its sequel, The Forge of Heaven. Does Hammerfall have an open ending, or could it be read separately? Hmm, Teir, as for Angel with the Sword you haven't missed much because what...

    Which Fantasy/Scifi Character Are You?

I got Jean-Luc Picard. I loved Star Trek when I was a kid, but now would probably prefer a LoTR character:rolleyes: . Ah well..

    The Bonehunters UK Cover

Brys, you've said the 6th volume will be set in the seven cities... so probably it's going to be a direct continuation of the House of Chains? (I'm currently finishing Memories of Ice, so still 2 volumes to go, but I'm curious anyway). The cover is OK, although pretty standard, nothing...

    Favorite Kate Elliott character?

My favourite Elliott character is Sanglant, no question. Of course I like Alain, but I liked him better in the first 2 volumes when he belonged in the ranks of the nobility... just kidding;) . My favourite female character would be Theophanu. She's so secretive, but at the same time very...
