Managed to do some reading over the holidays.
"Songs of the Dark" by Anthony Ryan. Liked the short stories there from the Raven's Shadow world.
"The Fires of Vengeance" and "Rage of Dragons" by Ian Winter. Enjoyed the first two books. Think the third book isn't out yet.
Then went on to the "Left...
I'm a fan of his work as well. Saw that the Girl and the Moon was released recently and picked up the trilogy last week. Enjoyed the read and how he connected the story with his previous works.
Glad I continued with the Grey Bastards. Liked the 2nd and 3rd book more.
Completed the Raven's Shadow Trilogy and Wolf's Call Duology as well. Decent reads for me.
Looking for a new series to latch on to now. Couldn't get into Draconis Memoria, the Vagrant, or Demon Cycle series. Didn't...
Finished the Farseer Trilogy, Broken Empire Trilogy, Red Queen's War Trilogy, and starting on the Grey Bastards.
The first 3 trilogies really drew me in. Felt sad for Fitz at the end. Found I lacked the motivation to see him suffer anymore after finishing, and that's why I switched to the...
TBH, 21 is probably what I've read for the past 3-4 years until my binge reading last month! I blame it on the 2 babies and work. :X3:
Just enjoying trying out different authors this time round. Series I've heard of but never read for some reason or another. Just finished the first Farseer...
Crazy September. Read 21 books after a long, long while without touching a novel.
Started with "A Brightness Long Ago" by Guy Gavriel Kay, then the first 3 books of "Black Company" by Glen Cook, then the 14 Garrett PI by Cook, and ended yesterday with the "Ancestor" trilogy by Mark Lawrence...
Just finished this trilogy and I liked it a lot. Gonna grab some more Mark Lawrence after this. Zole and Nona seemed a little over-powered in the end, but I liked the story and characters.
Just finished the series after completing all the existing ASoIaF books.
Wrote a long reply, but when I clicked post it said the token expired. :(
Anyway, to summarise:
I'd probably have liked it more if I hadn't read LOTR and ASoIaF before it. It has its strengths, but the overarching story...
Reading GotM and, some times, it's a jumble of confusion due to so many characters and concepts being dumped onto the readers. Must say Tool is a great source of information, though.
Heard great things about this series, so I'm going to soldier on and hope to be rewarded at the end.
Well, I assumed that "dan" meant "of" or "from" like in some of the European naming conventions, but my mind still played tricks on me while reading it. :)
First Law's an enjoyable series with a nice twist, but I have one minor peeve - the dan in the names of some of the characters.
"Dan" means "and" in Malay and sometimes when I read Sand dan Glokta, I think Sand and Glokta. Don't usually have a problem with capitalised Dans, but the small...
Probably nothing prize winning here, but I have a few of these sort of angles from my collection.

Where's this from? Looks dangerous. I remember a similar bridge which I crossed in Malaysia. The ropes weren't tight enough and started swaying wildly when I was crossing. Almost fell into the river below.
Ah okie. Just noticed the safety harness. I wouldn't attempt a similar bridge again...
Not SFF, but I just got The Blind Watchmaker and Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice for all Creation. Will probably stop purchasing now as I'm still deciding my next destination.
Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice for all Creation is pretty entertaining. You have animals writing in to Dr. Tatiana asking for her...
It's probably because in the Sparrow I knew that nothing good would come out of Sandoz's tale in the end. Starts on a bright note, but the story just gets more depressing from then on. Peeling through Sandoz's misery was hard work! There were times when I didn't really want to touch it. I liked...
Over the past week, I completed:
Children of God - I thought this was very good. More engrossing than the Sparrow and moved at a faster pace.
Hyperion - Ending left a lot to be desired, but I liked the format.
Flowers in the Attic - Was interesting enough, but the logic of some of the...
I liked it, especially the format and the collection of short stories, although I do get the feeling that most of his characters are reincarnated from one book to another. I think of myself as rather liberal, but some of the ideas on sexual relationship raised in TEFL did make me think.
