What is so special about Blade Runner?

As I grew up, I only ever saw the Directors Cut of the film. For years, that has been my only reference point. I've always loved, and in a way, feared this film - as a child growing up in sunshine, this dark, wet, crowded future, where even the animals weren't real, and you couldn't be sure if...

Diskdrive World - Terry Pratchett's Unfinished...

I've just got my 9yr old daugther to start reading Wee Free Men - and over this last 2 days i've just re-read The Shepherds Crown. I still can't read the Shepherds Crown without crying. I really felt TP's passing, and last year, when my father passed, it was TP's words that I looked to. "No...

Diskdrive World - Terry Pratchett's Unfinished...

I Love TP - even now I feel emotional about his passing. When I read Shepherds Crown, and realised that it was his way of saying goodbye, I welled up several times during the course of the book. And, while I realise that this was his wishes, I still feel a pang that we'll never get to read...

Discussion Thread -- September 2017 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

I can never read the stories until I've done my own, but what I can say is that I'm very much enjoying brushing up my knowledge of the slightly less well known, to me at least, fables and fairy tales. I might get lost in them and not submit anything at this rate. But it's great to be back . . . .

Sad news: Terry Pratchett dies, age 66.

I know, but I can't help wishing that we could have seen them. I've just set my 9yr old on the path of Tiffany, in Wee Free Men. I re-read it whilst she was in the pool while we were on holiday. I cried when the subject of Granny Aching's death came up (part because the death of my dad is...

Many thanks to Starbeast, Glen, Johnnyjet and TDZ for the mentions - really lovely warm glow you've given me! And to Shyrka for the lovely review My vote went to The Judge, who was one of my shortlisted stories first time round. Interesting to hear, and see, the inspiration behind some of...

Both TDZ and Perp Man have been cajoling any Chrons members they know on FB and as soon as the theme/genre was mentioned I had the image in my mind. Had to look it up myself too as couldn't remember the full details! Good to be part of this again though ;)

Having been badgered by TDZ on facebook, I've entered for the first time in . . . . years. Very rushed, but was fun to do. Might possibly get back into this malarky (y)

Sad news: Terry Pratchett dies, age 66.

From my earliest readings of the Colour of Magic, I always wanted something made of Sapient Pearwood - alas, this will never happen, but I found this tonight and it warms my heart that others loved the Luggage as much as I did To be scrupulously fair, the creators of such a wonderful confection...

Sad news: Terry Pratchett dies, age 66.

Incredibly sad news, but somehow lightened by the fact that he was desperate not to suffer the full weight of Alzheimers, and therefore now knowing that he was spared the worst. Am not a follower on twitter, but saw this earlier, and it choked me up...

Where To Start With Margaret Atwood?

I studied Handmaids Tale for A-Level English - studying it in such a way gives a different perspective I think. I was forced to think about books in a very different way than when I just read them at home. I learned a lot, and found that book both very well written but very scary in how easy...

    RIP Nelson Mandela.

RIP Nelson Mandela I was lucky enough to visit South Africa 9 years ago, and see some of the history in the making, even if it was touristy-tours on the outside of the actual events. It made me think. An inspiring man BBC News - South Africa's Nelson Mandela dies in Johannesburg
