So what is your August majesty reading?

Finishing Katharine Kerr Polar city Nightmare - only third book this month, it has been slow month - next has to be better :o Book has been moderately entertaining - although I would have liked this to be more abut the mystery and less about the emotional states of the participants. Then again -...

So what is your August majesty reading?

Finished only second book this month :o Stross The Merchants' War - sad is that this book ends when everything is getting interesting. I'll have to get the next book at some point. About one third through Katharine Kerr Polar City Nightmare - which has been pretty decent so far but nothing...

So what is your August majesty reading?

Doesn't seem to be - as Guttenberg had that story I read half of it - the characters and time travelling method are quite different. Seems to be only reusage of the Mastodonia name.

So what is your August majesty reading?

Still reading Charles Stross The Merchants' War - should have finished it a while ago but somehow it's dragging. At the same time started with Clifford Simak Mastodonia - a book which has really classic Simak beginning and characters.

How many SF fans do you know in person?

Strange - we seem to have a lot tighter group of SFF fans here - I know about 100+ who like SFF movies and/or books (about 10-20 of them are also writers). We have monthly meetings - where we mostly don't talk about SFF that much but it's still good to know you can talk there with someone about...

    Metro 2033

Congratulations - it seems to be a really fast expanding franchise universe at the moment - at least 5 tie-in books by different authors have been issued in Russia this year.

So what is your August majesty reading?

Reading Scalzi The Android's Dream - really interesting and funny book about sabotage, interplanetary diplomacy and sheep... I really should pick up Scalzis Agent to the Stars and The God Engines - to complete my collection. Also about 1/3 through Pride & Predjustice & Zombies - but put it...

    Steven Brust Vlad Taltos series

Strange - I would have been sure you like these stories - although they are not classic mystery or detective stories as the main character is the "bad" guy. Still - they should have enough noir feeling, sarcasm and fun dialogue - to appeal to people who enjoy mystery and SFF.

    Steven Brust Vlad Taltos series

I think they might have been mentioned in mystery-SF threads but he is usually not so well known. My respect to people who can do that - I would have been quite annoyed when the story is jumping from end to begginning to middle etc. I read first 10 books as they should be in timeline - but now...

    Steven Brust Vlad Taltos series

You don't say... really !? :p Haven't I made enough promo for these books - probably should start 100 +1 threads about this author :D Did you read in chronological or in publishing order ? The story is jumping quite a bit in time - which I was reminded again reading Jhegaala recently I was...

    Increased intelligence in SF

Strange that no-one has mentioned David Brin Uplift books in this thread or Greg Bear Blood Music - when you are talking about increased intelligence

So what are we all reading in June, then?

Gollum - why I didn't appreciate these stories too much - read my second sentence again - the explanation is mostly there ;):D I'm not really a "horror" literature reader, I tend to prefer texts that are more action or dialogue not description or feeling based. I read this book only to get to...

So what are we all reading in June, then?

Finished two books: Clifford D Simak Out of Their Minds - build up, characters and feeling pretty much the same as many of his other books - nice point in this story anyway. Collection of stories from Theophile Gautier - translations of course - some of them were historic stories, some with...

So what are we all reading in June, then?

So far this month: Second part of early Lukjanenko space-opera - currently finishing the third part. It gets somewhat better but still it's worse than the later books - it was a learning experience for author. Simon Green Just Another Judgement Day - story about Nightside and John Taylor -...

Maybe time for May reading thread ...

This is solid epic fanatsy - with some good chracters, especially the horse - but doesn't surprise in any way. Finished the first Lukjanenko - classic space opera (think E. Hamilton) although ending isn't as epic as you would think. Still readable book although a bit weaker than his later space...

Maybe time for May reading thread ...

Reading 3 russian novels - One horror novel for the mornings - not really scary, but still not reading this before sleep and 2 space operas - reading one of them in the evening, depending on the mood.

Finished Reynolds Pushing Ice - comment on finishing - meh !? What was this supposed to be? Still it was fun to read - although the main conflict somewhat made sense and somewhat didn't. Anyway - planning to get more Reynolds books. Now reading ... haven't decided, at least 2 books waiting to...
