I predict that Jaime will be brought back to account to Stoneheart and he and Brienne will be required to rescue Sansa to fulfill his oath. There are a few people in the Eerie who may suspect her indentity, and perhaps it has gotten back to Stoneheart.

Well, as you say, GRRM is ready willing and able to have an SF background, if he chooses. The Pern series did the spaceship crash, genetic engineering and native fire lizards. But it already had a connection to planet orbits with string fall (if I remember).

There are lots of giveaways or maybe even some corrections in the TV series.
