Golden Compass 20th anniversary ed - Question

Hello, Recently a 20th anniversary edition was released for the Golden Compass - by Philip Pullman. It's my favourite book series so I'm interested in it, but I can't find a lot of information about it. For anybody that has seen it and is familiar with the series, does it include the Lantern...

3D cinema - Why is everyone so up at arms against it?

I don't particularly hate it, but I wouldn't mind if it went away. I do wear glasses, but I just wear the 3D ones overtop and have never had a problem. However, I find that if a movie is good I end up getting absorbed in the storyline and ignoring the 3D altogether, so for me I just end up...

    Hidden gems in popular series?

I was just thinking about the stuff I used to read back in junior high and high school (dragonlance, forgotten realms, etc). For nostalgia's sake, I picked up 'Dragons of Autumn Twilight' and read a bit. However, I found I had to stop because the writing style wasn't what I remembered and left a...

    Who knows me?

 What a strange way to advertise your book!

    forgot author and title

Yes, that is true - however, there was fire involved and I can see where a fuzzy memory would mix that up.

    forgot author and title

The first part definitely sounds like 'Dragon Prince' by Melanie Rawn. I don't remember the sequel books as well as Dragon Prince itself, but the second part does sound like it comes from the same series.

Books You Should Like But Don't

Michael Moorcock's Elric novels. I gobbled up the first of his books that I read - The Eternal Champion, and went on to enjoy Phoenix in Obsidian and The Dragon in the Sword, but for some reason I can't seem to get into anything else of his that I've tried. I'd like to try again, though.

    Books that got to you.

Michael Moorcock's The Eternal Champion. Not the entire 'series' of books, but rather just the one book of that name. It just really grabbed me and made me think for quite a while.

    The August What-Are-You-Reading-This-Month-Thread....

Confession: I'm actually reading the Harry Potter series for the first time now, currently on book five. I'm really enjoying it - I'm ashamed to admit that I have been doing very little reading for the past few years up until now - it's been a busy time, and I actually chose Harry Potter because...

Mercedes Lackey - who and where to start!

I've read a few of her books - they're actually pretty enjoyable (though don't read any of her stuff looking for too much depth, in my opinion) as long as you leave a long enough time period between reading any of her series. I've found that if I read one of her series, and then another too soon...

Sword of Truth series (Terry Goodkind)

Couldn't get through the first book - I think I was really turned off by the length of Wheel of Time (got to book 9 of that series and gave up), so when I found Wizard's First Rule to be completely uninteresting, I just stopped right there.

Do you find that you have to read?

I'm going to go against the crowd here and say no. Don't get me wrong, I love to read. However, there are many days where I don't end up reading at all - if I feel like it, I'll read. If not, I won't.

    Sword of Shandar

Hello, I am curious to know if anybody has read Sword of Shandar by Victor Besaw? I remember reading it when I was a kid, and for some reason I still have it sitting around. I can't find any reviews on it, and I'm not sure if I actually liked the book or not. The fact that I still have it may...

A Dance with Dragons Cover Art Released

Are they not releasing these covers anymore? I have only the first three novels, and they're in this format, but I've only seen the newer format in stores now.

    George R. R. Martin v. Robert Jordan

Personally, I'd go for Martin first, simply because WoT starts out fine but starts to get a little... not so great. It really fizzles out around book 7-ish.

    Books You Shouldn't Read

I have to second this one (in fact, when I saw the title of this thread, the Iron Tower series was the first thing that popped into my head!) Fortunately, I only read the first book (I had to finish it, as I had chosen it for a book report when I was in high school. I felt much better after...

    Book Hauls!

Recently found a new used book store in a nearby town and picked up an omnibus of the 10 volumes of Amber. I haven't read any of these yet, but I've had enough recommendations for them to be curious.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Prince Caspian (2008) I'm surprised that there isn't a topic for this! Has anybody seen this movie yet? While I didn't think it was great, I did enjoy it (though it's been a long time since I read the book and I barely remember it, so thankfully I wasn't able to notice any differences that...
