Best and Worst Adaptation(s) of Book(s) To Cinema and Television

Not the best ever, but I thought Coraline was a pretty pitch-perfect adaptation. And on that theme, the American Gods TV show is pretty damn good too. Worst, purely on a personal "you just tainted my childhood" level: Legend of the Seeker and The Golden Compass.

    GRRM and women characters

Anne - that's so strange, I never made the Cersei/Circe connection, and I study Greek archaeology! But now that you point it out it makes complete sense to me.

    GRRM and women characters

Why not both? I really don't know what to think about Penny at this stage. The only reason I can think of for her existence was to get Tyrion into certain places/in front of certain people at certain times.

    Perp's Top 10 Graphic Novels!

It doesn't necessarily have to be similar, it just has to be good! After reading Sandman 5 (A Game of You) yesterday I've really come to appreciate the things graphic novels can do that other media can't.

    GRRM and women characters

Brilliant post, Boaz. I was thinking about this the other day. I know a bunch of people hate Catelyn (and I don't particularly like her either), but her motivations are always relatable. The audience judges her because they can see how her actions negatively affect the greater events happening...

    RIP Maurice Sendak

I feel that he understood childhood in a way that very few authors (let alone adults) do. RIP. gully - I also have a Where the Wild Things Are t-shirt! I love it.

GRRM ruined a song of ice and fire by killing too many good characters

Agreed! I couldn't believe myself when I realised that I was sympathising with Cersei during ADWD.

    Women vs Men in fiction

I think there may actually be something to mort's post in that the way people respond to and perceive characters may differ on their own background and experiences. For example, I always respond well to pretty butt-kicking girls with big weapons (usually with a "She's ****ing awesome!") My...

    Winds of winter info-spoiler

Moqorro said to Victarion that you don't need to blow the horn to control the dragons, you only need to own it. Why would Dany risk blowing it herself when apparently there's a way for someone else to do it and still have the dragons obey her?

    Diablo 3

I've got mine on order! I only played Diablo briefly and never played Diablo II, but I'm quite excited. Got a bunch of friends who'll be playing too. I'm looking at playing a monk, but after watching the class videos on the website barbarian looks really cool too. I'm sure I'll end up playing...

    Last Light of the Sun

To be honest, I'm quite happy not knowing. One thing I've noticed about GGK's work is that there are always mysterious scary things lurking in the places in between civilisation. He never gives in to the temptation to explain them, and I think that adds to the sense of just how little control...

    Perp's Top 10 Graphic Novels!

Awesome thread Perp. I'm not much of a graphic novel reader - I'm only halfway through Sandman - but I do really enjoy that, so maybe I'll give some of these a go!
