    Iron Council by China Mieville

I'm suprised that so many of you disliked the ending to IC. I haven't read PSS but having just completed the Scar I found little to complain about by comparison. [Apologies in advance if I'm retreading the same ground as others but I haven't read this thread in its entirety.] I found the...

    Most gorgeous bookcovers

"The Eternal Champion" book covers by Michael Moorcock come to mind, Corum and Elric in particular. I'm not sure exactly what edition I'm thinking of but it's a very stylish animated portrait of him with his sword.

    R. Scott Bakker

I noticed this author is missing from the list and have difficulty comprehending why? I've only just read his first novel; The Darkness that Comes Before, but it brings much to the table. The Dunyain are a concept I've been craving for a very long time, and Bakker does an excellent job. I...

Your favourite Malazan novel to date

Deadhouse Gates, bitterly humerous and darkly entertaining. Just the way I like it. :D Definitely glad I didn't skip it, I thought Anomander Rake had possibly the coolest pathos I'd ever seen, but Icarium beats him hands down. And The Fall was one of the most moving scenes I've ever read...

Do I need to read Deadhouse Gates to read House of Chains?

Will do, like I said it was a mistake. That's unfortunate that Kruppe isn't in DhG, sounds like reading GRRM without Tyrion. But knowing Erikson there will be one if not several equivalent comedic outlets. Thanks for the advice. :)

Do I need to read Deadhouse Gates to read House of Chains?

I know this question sounds illogical, but I accidently mixed up the order and read MoI second. HoC looks much more interesting than DhG(Naturally basing this on the cover / title :D), to be honest I wasn't even aware of it until 868 pages in, and only then by accident. I just assumed Erikson...

Sword of Shadows by J V Jones Discussion

I have to agree with you about Sword of Shadows being better by far, I think for me what made Book of Words better than Barbed Coil was the characters. I just really liked Tawl and several others more than I liked the characters from Barbed Coil (who's names I can no longer even recall...

Superhero Showdown 2: Wonderwoman vs Rogue

 Wow I can't believe I got that mixed up, never was a huge x-men fan but I did watch it when it was on. :o (leaves quietly when no one is looking)

Superhero Showdown 2: Wonderwoman vs Rogue

Have to go with Rogue, I mean come on she's the Dark Phoenix.

    Superhero Showdown: Wolverine VS Batman

Re: Superhero Showdown: Wolveriene VS Batman Batman might have a chance if he was inside the Batcopter and armed with missiles... but then I guess Wolverine would have the Blackbird so he wins either way. I think Batman deserves an equal opponent, how about James Bond? Gritty one liners and...

Sword of Shadows by J V Jones Discussion

I understood that... I'm just saying I don't know how you could consider eddings his equivalent in any sense, /w or w/o the dark elements. I would consider The Barbed Coil(my least favoured JV Jones novel) a better book than anything eddings has ever produced. IMO her characters are more real...

    What to read first?

Thanks for the opinions, Irvine doesn't exactly sound like my type, but we'll see. Have little doubt that I will enjoy Gardens of the Moon after hearing the opinions of you and others. I think you're being a little harsh towards OUT Gollum, it's not really my kind of book either but it wasn't...

    What to read first?

I recently purchased three books by authors I've never read before and was wondering if anyone here has read 2 or all of them and can direct me in what order I should read them (with the best books first of course:rolleyes: ) Geomancer / Ian Irvine Gardens of the Moon / Steven Erikson OUT /...

Sword of Shadows by J V Jones Discussion

Absolutely incredible, JV Jones is by far my favorite female fantasy writer. Maybe I'm freakishly turned on by the morbid and the depressing, but this series just blew me away. I literally cannot fathom how anyone could manage to put it down. The Barbed Coil wasnt bad, and the Book of Words was...

    Storm Constantine

I tried to read the first Wreathu book, but it didn't really appeal to me and I gave up after 100 pages or so. My library has a bunch of her books, but I can't seem to get my hands on a number of British authors.

How good is Stephen King as a writer?

I liked The Stand, The Bachman books (yes especially The Long Walk:)), Hearts in Atlantis was great, though it tended to go a little downhill after about halfway. Tried to read The Tommyknockers, didn't find it that interesting. Didn't read Dreamcatcher, but I actually enjoyed the movie. I think...

    Kate Elliott books and writings

Just started reading King's Dragon, never read anything by Kate Elliot before. I wasn't sure if I was even going to get it, but I recognized Alia's name on the second page and then I had to know. ;) Any recommended books by her?
