    RR and Hobb

Well, I liked Hobb's work too (except for the Soldier's Son trilogy, which I despised), and I love Martin's work - so I think you'll be pleased with your choices. Happy reading! :)

    RR and Hobb

You should start with 'A Game of Thrones' (book one in A Song of Ice and Fire). If you've not read any of his work yet you are in for some good times. :)

Which Wii Accessories Are Actually Needed?

Yeah, I'll second Lucien. Another Wii-mote and Nunchuk ought to see you by just fine. :)

Deus Ex is amazing, I have high hopes...

Yes I have seen the teaser, and yes I am excited. It's exactly the kind of thing I'm pining to play at the moment. I'm looking forward to seeing more details about the game, however. Although, having said that, perhaps I should take the advice implicit in my earlier post. The less I know (and...

Deus Ex is amazing, I have high hopes...

Invisible War was the first Deus Ex game that I actually played. Perhaps for that reason (and for having no significant expectations of any kind) I absolutely loved the game. The game, for me, possessed a unique narrative and ambient texture. I loved the sense of intrigue, the pacing, and the...

Crows as smart as our Ape cousins

I think all of the following can be used for ravens: A conspiracy of ravens An unkindness of ravens A constable of ravens Bird group names are really rather excellent, IMO. Excellence example: A pitying of turtledoves. :D

A question about Riftwar and Silvertorn

Yes, I would agree with Pyan. The two books are really quite different from one another. Magician feels much more self-contained, so to speak, and more "epic" in a sense. I enjoyed Silverthorn quite a bit when I first read it, but it was certainly less ambitious in terms of scope.

    Least Favorite Character

Yes, I have to agree that Catelyn is a frustrating character. In fact, her constant sourpuss ways drove me to distraction every time I was exposed to them. :)

    Anyone traumatised?

I wouldn't say that I have been traumatized by horror films, but I do find that I can become quite disgusted and angry at times while watching them. I used to enjoy the genre but, as I've grown a little older (a wizened 25 years now) I find myself less able to tolerate them. I find it...

It means "If I remember correctly", IIRC. :D

    Least Favorite Character

Yes, very true. There are a lot of reasons why I do not consider Tyrion to be a villain-esque character - but he made Boaz's list, so I wanted to address him a little. He's a hard character not to like, I found; very cunning and determined, yet at the same time somehow naive and vulnerable.
  14. Rohan

    Least Favorite Character

Yes, my point exactly. I can't help but feel for Tyrion especially, when I talk about circumstance. A misshapen dwarf with a disdain for authority could hardly have been born to more inappropriate and unaccepting family!

    Least Favorite Character

George Martin writes the "texture" of villainy so well; indeed, it has resulted in many of my favourite characters being of the "evil" bent. Despite hating them as fictitious people, I love the wonderful execution of their various characters. :) I'm not sure that I would call all of the people...

    Least Favorite Character

No way! Sure he's a terrible human being, but as a character? It's characters like this one that make Martin's world so brutal and terrifying; I consider him a good character, not a poor one!

Yes, since you're asking, he was killed. :(

    Must fantasy include magic

Out of curiosity, would you consider a book that contained orcs, elves, dwarves, dragons, and great, army-destroying warrior-heroes, but no magic, to be fantasy? I certainly would. Fantasy has tropes, not rules. It is like a web. Constructed from many parts, the loss of one thread does not...

    Must fantasy include magic

I would hesitate to claim that any genre must have this or that to truly belong. Having said that, the best fantasy books that I personally have read do incorporate magic into their world; albeit to varying degrees and in differing ways. I myself am a fan of magic as it is implemented in ASOIAF...
