    What we're reading in June...

At the moment I'm in the middle of The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. I picked up the first in the series yesterday and now I'm almost done with the second (yes yes I know, I have issues). I just can't seem to put them down but at the same time, I'm not sure if it is because they're...

    March's Journey into Fiction

Knivesout, it is some of the best writing I have ever read. Nabokov manages to make you feel much more sympathy for Humbert Humbert than for Lolita. Its extremely disturbing but at the same time, I just can't put it down. I should be finished with it this afternoon and I picked up the movie...

    March's Journey into Fiction

I'm currently reading "The Long Walk" by Stephen King and I'm mostly through "Lolita" by Nabokov. Both are very good but extremely disturbing books.

    February's Forays into Fiction

I'm currently juggling a few different books. Jhereg, Gone with the Wind(one I try to reread on occasion) and The Origin of Satan.

    January Journeys into literature

I've read them all and I loved them. I thought they improved with each book and the story kept me hooked. I would definitely recommend the series.

    January Journeys into literature

I've got three going currently. "Gardens of the Moon", "Staying Dead" and "Life a la Mode". So far so good on all three. I'll probably finish Life first as its a fluff chick lit novel.

    Shaun of the Dead (2004)

I finally got the chance to watch this the other night and it was absolutely hilarious! A definite must-own. I've never heard of "Spaced" but if it was anything like "Shaun of the Dead" I am going to have to find it.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

Took the kids to see it last week. It was very good. The kids loved it, my husband hated it. :D

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

The books couldn't keep my interest but I have to say that I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie. The previews look good.

    Favourite Re-Read

I can reread LoTR and the Hobbit anytime. Also, A Wrinkle in Time is one of my faves and I can read that in less than an hour. One that isn't even at all related to sci fi or fantasy that I read often is called Bingo by Rita Mae Brown. Hilarious.

    Jacqueline Carey

Just wanted to bring this author up again since I just started her new series, The Sundering. First book is titled Banewreaker and its as different from the Kushiel books as night from day. I love it so far! Has anyone else read it?

Books you couldn't bear to finish.

I haven't been able to finish Catch-22 either. I've had it on my nightstand for almost two years now and I'm not even halfway through it. It may be one of those books I just have to be in the right frame of mind to read. It took me three tries to get into Rice's Lestat and then on the third...

    The Incredibles

After we took my two to see it, they were quite the same Mark. My son went through all of the superheroes and pretended he was each of them(all while we were out for dinner mind you). It was definitely a wonderful movie!

    The Halo 2 Thread

My husband is frothing at the mouth for this one. Seeing as we just acquired the X Box I told him to wait...so he rented the first Halo this weekend and made me play it with him. First let me say that games like Fable and Oddworld are much more to my speed. I'm no video game pro or an addict...

    The Fable Thread

Alright....we just got an xbox two days ago and everyone who knows me says I'll love this game. I'm assuming that you highly recommend it Bigmacscanlan(ok, is there anything shorter to call you or should I just stick with Bigmac?)? :)

    Cold November Library

I just started the first book in the Magdalen Trilogy, "Daughter of the Shining Isles" by Elizabeth Cunningham. It's definitely an interesting story. Basically its narrated by Mary Magdalen who, according to the author, was actually born as a redheaded Celt on the island of Tir na mBan and...

    Brendan Fraser

I agree with Princess Ivy on this one. He's great. We own George of the Jungle and its hilarious. I also really liked him in School Ties and With Honors. :) The one I see too often for my tastes is the recent Loony Toons flick he made. It has its funny moments, but its pretty cheesy. The kids...

    Gormenghast BBC series

Re: Gormenghast Oddly enough I never realized the trilogy had been made into a series until I was at the library yesterday and saw the DVD. I had to rent it. I've only made it through the first episode and most of the second but so far I'm impressed. It does help though, that I love Jonathon...

    Guilty secrets

Oh there isn't much I won't read minus westerns so I'm sure there are a few guilty secrets in my closet. If I want a quick, no thought required popcorn read I'll read women's lit.....or romance. Or young adult books. I adore Madeline L'Engle. :)

    Has anybody read ...

I often read books meant for younger adults. It helps me pick out things that I want my own kids to read and, I'll be honest, I just love to read anyway. :D I haven't read this one but I'll put it on my list to pick up. dwndrgn, I agree with you on Lemony Snicket. I couldn't even finish...
