Alien 5 coming - from Neill Blomkamp

And also for the large studios, in Sydney, and the cheaper costs (labor etc). Deserts? Yeah we've got them if they want them.

Okay then... hmmm. Newt wakes up, and it's all been a terrible dream. We see shots of Ripley falling into the vat of lead... it's a ll been a dream. That's the only obvious way I can thimk of at the momento...
Ideally the movie ends up being about the Aliens instead of character-based dull old human beings with spiffy new guns.

Best to just assume Alien 3 and 4 didn't happen. Works for me. Terrible films.

On rewatch, they are acceptable on their own terms, but not as part of the supposedly-evolving storyline. It just went sideways, like they handed off to someone who just decided to fool around, add their own 'ideas' to a very clear-cut and interesting theme.
I remember the comic series was good, Gibson wrote up some stuff ... then those movies came out. 4 had great potential, made some good points, but the creature was wrong and threw people off.... the human/alien cute monster just didn't work here. I just rewatched them after years of silent loathing, and not so bad as I thought... but still.
Can they fix it and make another thriller like the first two, or will it be an extravaganza of new weapons and FX? Certainly AVP fell prey to this kind of thing.
Point is - the Aliens series is not about human beings so much, or shouldn't be - not specific human beings anyway.
Prometheus.... blah. Ditch it.

I really enjoyed Alien 3 both on first and subsequent viewings. Excellent atmosphere and some exciting sections. Though I agree not as good as the first 2.
Prometheus was very bad. I can see that someone who hadn't watched the other Alien films could find it ok, even though the biologist and geologist were idiots.

To this day I can't remember what Prometheus was about, though I watched it a couple times at least. So this new Alien5 is interesting.... but I'm prepared for schwill, you just can't trust 'em, those movie types, trust me. For any fledgling SF fans, it's also worth watching the 'making of' particularly of Aliens, which was pretty much at the moment when CGI started talking over. So there's no CGI in Aliens yet 'tis still very high quality FX. The olde ways are best, aye, aye....

All right... forget Ripley/Newt/Hicks they are deeceased. The comic series had an insane general trying to build an Alien army to retake the Earth back from the Aliens. That was a good idea. The 'Company' is the bad guy in this series of course... so they will be trying, again, to control and breed Aliens. This time, however, they may be wise enough to put them in cages that they can't burn their way out of via the good old acid-blood trick. Maybe.

Prometheus 2 is now renamed Alien: Covenant and will be made before Blomkamp's Alien film, so Prometheus 2 is now Alien 5.

The Covenant appears to be the name of the protagonist's spaceship.

Here is Michael Biehn again saying the Blomkamp movie will be set after Aliens. So an alternative 3 with Hicks and Newt surviving. (I suppose with the delay for production there is a chance it wont be made. But it should be.)

I paid to have my photo taken with Michael Biehn at the Calgary comic expo when loads of Aliens cast met up, so now I believe every word of his as if he was my father.

What can Neil Blomkamp really do with this franchise that hasn't already been done? After Aliens in 1986 this franchise was pretty much done. AVP the first film had the novelty of them meeting the predators which wore off with the mess called Requiem.

Given how limited the Aliens are, there is really no place to go with this one.

Now, now, Baylor... chin up, there's still life in the olde Alien series. Really, the worst thing they could do - and usually do do.... is try to think up something 'NeW' ....as if everyone out there has seen every movie, every plot twist.... which is rubbish. Just make a good movie about giant space fleas and I will be happy.
Really, the Alien series is about getting the cast, Marines or whoever, into a position where they are trapped and being picked off one by one. Hardly a new concept, but somewhat neccessary for the Aliens themselves to have much effect. Otherwise we just nuke them from orbit, yes?
S'too bad this series got so popular, it should just be for us hard SF types.

All they can do is chest burst , , attacked and kill, they are very limited creatures. All Neil Blomkamp can do is what's been done before and that will be boring. There's really nowhere else to go with this one.

You can say a lot of horror movie characters are very limited other than attacking and killing, and being tough. But we still see no end of Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, Halloween etc films.
Aliens at least is set in the future and can have interesting sets and unusual ideas. If you have interesting characters too (unlike in Prometheus) I'm sure there is still plenty of mileage. Actually I did think after Alien 4 that we may have an Alien film with the Aliens being on earth itself. Aliens running through a big city could be entertaining. Not so easy to nuke them if they have more than 1 colony or are in amongst civilians.

We sort of got that that with AVP and AVP Requiem. :)

Steve Perry wrote a trilogy of books in which these Aliens did get to Earth.:)

Yes, the comic series dealt with it well. They got down onto the Earth, were concealed, and actually had a religion form around them, and a tv station that was hypnotically gaining new acolytes, until the Earth was overun and lost to humanity. Then there was an insane general who built an army of Aliens, by torturing and killing them, and he took said army back to Earth to try and reclaim it, with predictable results.
It was pretty good writing, I know William Gibson was involved at one point.
So there's lots of places to go with it, and the Aliens are indeed interesting critters. Watching Ripley snuggle with them in the 4th movie has changed people's opinions of them... maybe they aren't all bad? Maybe we can be friends? Maybe- * )

I think there is plenty to do with them. Especially if taken down the path with the engineers and predators. The AVP films were appalling, the original AVP comic storyline was good.

There is huge scope for future films. It just takes more vision than has so far been shown.
