The Winds of Winter publishing date guesses?

If they get books almost straight after release I would be very impressed.

Is there normally a gap between the hard and paperbacks being released?

In the UK it's automatically one year at most. In the USA they delay the paperback until the hardcover sales start dropping off. For ADWD, that was over two years. There's no chance that TWoW will get a paperback release alongside the hardcover.

Well, I sure as hell would wait forever after the actual publication date of TWoW... knowing my location, it would really, really take awhile. I'll just be satisfied with sneak peeks on the ebooks. Rest assured, I will def would buy the legit book, hardcover or soft. :)

I normally wait for paperback as well, but I will be out there the day it hits stores and buy the $40 hard cover.

Still no hints or clues from GRRM of late, only to say that he is done with cons for the year - hopefully he'll have time now to sit down and write.....

I think I'll just preorder or try to preorder because I already know I won't have time or patience to camp in a line. When last book came out, it wasn't all that popular here, but now the books are more popular than ever and I learnt my lesson with the last book already.

I somewhat did that once for Harry Potter sixth book. I was in the city at the time for something else and it was getting close to midnight. I had read in the papers that some stores would start selling Harry Potter books at the stroke of midnight as a special event. So since i was there I figured might as well go and pick the book up. I came out of the store at 00.05 or so. 5 minutes well spend !

I won't be camping in a line for a book thats for certain. Pre-ordering's a good idea

Exactly ahahah I camped for hours to be within first 20 to buy the book. I was lucky too. They only stacked up for about 50 copies. More than half the people there were without a copy that night.

Lucky. Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows was so popular they sold all 1000 copies they ordered in that particular bookstore within two hours and sale started at midnight.

I had a weird dream last night that GRRM had finally published TWOW, but decided at the last minute to change the name to The Prometheus Conundrum.

Maybe some subconscious connection to the Mountain and Qyburn's "experiments" - or just too much rum punch yesterday evening?

I have that dream while awake ahahaha

It would be nice to hear something from GRRM himself but I'm not going to hold my breath!
Last thing he said was that he won't be making any predictions in regards to TWOW and that we'll only hear from him once he sends it into editing or something like that. OTL

The Christian Post just regurgitates rumours from the internet as fact.

The information we do have is that GRRM wants to finish the book in the next few months (although it's less clear if that's actually possible) and both his Spanish and Polish publishers have been told to expect the book for publication in 2016. But that's all hopes and expectations. There is no hard news.

Considering we are not far from 2016 then it is looking less likely we are going to see it before the new tv series comes out. Though I don't know how long the editing process takes for these. They are huge books obviously. George sends it to the editor and they sort out minor changes within weeks or are they commenting on chapter by chapter over the years of his writing a book? Presumably they are seeing sections of it every so often otherwise they might suggest massive changes if getting it all at once.

Every time I visit Martin's livejournal and see how many projects he is involved in, I die a little. XD It's a great thing he is so active and all, but a very selfish part of me just wishes he wasn't. XD

Just start watching the show (if you haven't already) like I'm doing! I got HBO on Sling TV and I'm going through the entire series in preparation for season 6. I know the show and the books diverge quite a bit but the major questions will be answered (What happened to Jon Snow? Who are his parents? Will Dany ever get back to Westeros and how? Who will ride the dragons? Etc.). That's all I really care about. I still seriously doubt we ever see TWOW but even if we do, I'm tired of waiting. I don't think it will ruin enjoyment of the books since there are so many differences from the show.
