Cassandra Clare

I thought Magisterium (which she co-wrote with Holly Black) was much closer to Harry Potter than the other books. Not all of it, and it was enjoyable (it also had flavourings of Divergent, I thought).

Meep. Well, I liked Nikita and I heard Supernatural is good... right?

Well, true. The first 5 seasons of Supernatural were very good. After that, it's been a patchy affair once the creator Eric Krupke left.

Haven't watched Nikita yet. Might do.

I thought that a Shadowhunter series would do much better in the hands of Buffy/Joss Whedon alum like Stephen DeKnight (who was most recently the showrunner for Daredevil) though. But this is ABC Family though. Not sure if they can do the books justice since most of their offerings have to be PG-13 rated at best.

But a bit showing its origins in her fanfiction past, didn't you think? i.e. not very original and even re-using some of her fanon work?

Mary

Mary I completely agree, I LOVE Cassandra Clare, but was left a bit disappointed by her carryover of previous fan fiction work. Really old trick... I like her fan fic more I think!

The cast is on point (at least looks-wise). They seem to have nailed it re Jace and Clary and Magnus:

I'm loving the casting too, I think they really got it right...and tbh I kind of prefer the unknowns. More exciting because it could kind of go either way...

Just finished reading LADY MIDNIGHT (the first book in the new Shadowhunters trilogy - THE DARK ARTIFICES).

I must say that Emma Carstairs is a much more appealing female protagonist than Clary Fairchild. :)
