should you read tlotr or the hobbit first

as hard as it sometimes is to read the hobbit, i'm going to have to agree with buks on that one:D
 
from what i can remember all beit a long time ago i think it should be the hobbit but i have read them and dont find them that interesting
 
Finallly finished 'The Hobbit' at last & didn't really enhoy it that much at all
 
When I was a girl, I tried reading TLOR first but only got through 95 pages or so... and I ended up reading The Hobbit first simply because it made sense to read it first since it predates TLOR. However, I think now that I could have read TLOR and not The Hobbit, had I not had enough time to read both. I am not sure it really matters what order you read them in, however. Both books do not need the other to be enjoyable on their own.
 
I read The Hobbit first when I was about eight and after I finished I moved straight on to TLOTR and I struggled. It was this first experience with the Tome which has led me to advise first timers to get to page 100 in the first sitting.
