Thanks for the review DG. I could make up crap names like that all day and it would never stop being fun.

Should also mention that I'm a bit of a traditionalist with writing comedic SFF, in that I won't put pen to paper without a few beers in me.

I'm in...I went, of course, with the theory that if you can't beat them, join them. I am both proud..and ashamed..of this entry. Mostly though I'm relaxed, because now I sit and wait for the other stories, and voting.

Well here come the first lot of Perp Comments. I'm a bit tired so if there are any spelling mistakes that the reason. Or any other mistakes.

I have to say I'm really having fun doing these this month, but sleep deprivation might be having a side-effect...


Ashleyne – Although the overall concept – planet sized creatures giving birth is good enough to raise a chuckle, it is the anthropomorphism of the characters at the start which really wins the day here. The opening scene of a woman in labour is great misdirection as the whole thing opens up into something so much bigger.

holland – But did Frank manage to save the day? !od ot sega nekat evah tsuM. (The spellchecker must have loved this!)

Luiglin – The Dark Lord returns and this time he is out for pizza. It is often said that people get what they deserve, and here the poor old Dark Lord learns that the path of evil might not be the right one if you don’t want karma to bit you on the behind and hide the anchovies. Some nice little touched add to the feel of the piece, from the gargoyle to the brakes on the ship.

springs – Well! Really! What needs to be said about this wonderful little piece that shows you a glimpse of the future as it really will be. My goodness, it is like looking into a brochure of future ve-hicles and seeing them made real before your eyes. I even have some of these enhancements in my ca… errr anyway let’s move on.

Juliana – As anyone who has read the bestselling – and really only – worthwhile space travellers guide, there is nothing that cannot be solved with a towel. Really is that vital to travel. Of course what we do not realise just who finances the publication of said book. Perhaps as we are told here it is just not for us that the towel is useful. Still, although not the best way to go, probably better than some poetry.

willwallace – A tale that gives a really animated take on the challenge. On these deep space voyages what could be more useful than beer? (Well apart from a towel). It would just help so much, from relaxing, to allowing the day by day monotony to drift on by. It’s not as if Fry is likely to go on a real bender now is it?

Victoria – it is amazing when you think about it just how much a cultural invasion could have to another planet, and I guess that is the serious lesson under the surface of this story. A race becoming so addicted by something, enough to allow their society to decay is quite a clever conceit. The fact that it is chess that does it is funny on more than one level.

ratsy - Some people take breakups too much to heart. I mean wiping out an entire planet for the sake of one’s dignity? Pathetic. It would seem that pathetic sums up the reason for Garth’s break up. Too quick on the draw eh? This may well be seen as a little bit smutty. Perhaps Garth needs one of those little devices my ca… I mean springs vehicle is fitted with.

Perp – Space, The Final Frontier. These are the voyag… ahh you get the idea. Respectfully dedicated to Leonard Nimoy, or course.

Is it just me or are these comments more like the fun things I used to do in the olden days?

To be honest springs, I'm feeling more and more like my old self, probably more so than I have done in a very long time. And you lot on the Chrons have all helped in that (whether you know it or not)

Tywin -- With great wit, the author reminds us that even the mighty have all too human weaknesses.

farntfar -- This fast-paced comedy shows us how small matters may have large effects.

HareBrain -- The use of believable characters adds to the power of this story of unintended consequences.

DG Jones -- With a clever wink and popular culture, the author reminds us that there's always someone who is a bit better than you are at anything.

Cascade -- Beneath the surface of the spoof of space opera lies an importance lesson in the power of the comic.

Cat's Cradle -- By viewing modern culture through other eyes, the author offers the reader a wry comment on what seems important to us.

StilLearning -- This satire of genre cliches teaches us that we all play roles of one kind or another.
