So, here we are again! :)

This is the inaugural message in the discussion thread for March's 100-word anonymous challenge. I am going to post a few notes here, and an invitation to any who would like to join our fun little challenge. (I borrowed this next bit from springs--thank you!--as posted in the first of these events): The challenge is to write a story in 100 words or less. Challenge entries should not be posted in this thread, but PMed to me directly. This thread is for discussion.

I will try my best to be diligent in the timely posting of stories as they are PMed to me. I will do a word-count on receipt of all stories; should any be over the 100-word limit, I will send a PM back to the story's author, and they will have an opportunity to trim a word here or there, and resubmit the story for posting. I will try to follow the same rules for counting as apply in the 75 and 300 worders.

Well, I think that's a good start! Please see the story-posting thread for theme/dates/etc. Finally, if I am messing-up any parts of the challenge, please post here, or send me a PM, and I will try to correct any errors. Have fun, gang! :)
 
I've just realized that hosting this challenge will push my post count dangerously close to the 1,000-post-threshold-of-terror; it is more of a suggestion, than a rule, that one must post a story for critiquing, isn't it?? :)

So what they going to do to you if you ignore it, CC? I ignored it at 4,000 and they tortured me for a few days. But so what? I'm fine now.

I'm so retro. (Rmm...Rrmmm...RRHMMM, RMmm, sputter, cough, burp, gasp) Ah, forget it. I'll just scribble on a piece of paper.

It's a suggestion. Many people don't do it. I skipped my 9000th. But, you know, say you're nervous and it's an 00th and we'll be gentle and you'll have cracked getting a crit up.... :).

Our first story is posted for March--and a horrifying tale it is! Well done, Anonymous 1! I am trying to reproduce the story in the challenge thread exactly as I received it in the author's PM; I will mention that copy/paste changed one bit of this first story--I tried to copy/paste two times, and each time the pasted version had lost the underlining of the title; I added it back in. I am scanning the posted stories closely after they're copied to the story thread to try and catch any similar omissions, but if any author notices anything missing from their story as it's posted, please contact me, and perhaps I can ask a moderator to try and make any corrections (assuming we're outside the one hour edit window).

I will apologize one time early in the challenge for my verbosity--I am a bit of a blowhard! Okay, great start! CC
 
:) Thank you Dusty! I do have one question...I am wholly unsophisticated when it comes to starting threads...in my view of the Workshop threads, JL's for the February challenge are pinned at the top of the Workshop view, which makes them very easy to find. I wonder if the threads for March's challenge should be pinned? It can be very frustrating searching down through a list that is headed by many pinned threads, when trying to find one particular unpinned thread. Maybe I am worrying too much, and it's not a problem? Merci, CC
 
CC, re the 1000 crit; I put one up at 1000 since I'd never posted one up before and figured it would be a good learning experience. (It was)

But I blatantly ignored it at 2000, as I was neck deep in revisions and just not in the mood. I honestly don't think anyone noticed. It's totally up to you, but if you haven't posted ine up before, it might be a good opportunity to try it out. :)
 
:) Thank you, Juliana, for the nice message. I might post an excerpt from one of my Secret Santa stories (my 1.5 SS stories, that is). I will see how brave I am feeling as 1,000 approaches!

Thank you for sticking and unsticking everything, TDZ! I'm very happy to see the challenge threads so easy to find now.

I'm looking forward to running the challenge, ratsy! Though that's an easy thing to say when poll-creation time is so far away! But I know the kind folks here will help, and that's very reassuring.

CC, don't be stressed about posting a 1000 post critique. Every one will take it easy on you, and you have nothing to worry about. Critiques help us make our work better, and learn something about our writing. Just ask some of the people who voluntarily request critiques!!??? :alien::alien::alien:
 
Thank you, ratsy! The only thing I've ever really written, besides these challenges, is a Secret Santa story..but I am curious to see if it seems interesting to folks here...maybe I'll SS the critiques section when I get to 1,000. :)

And we have our second story posted! 'Tis a fine and creepy tale, well done. I mentioned in a PM to an author here that as moderator of this event I feel like an expectant father sitting in the hospital and waiting for that special delivery: "Sir, it's arrived, and it's a beautiful 100 worder!" I'm hoping for many more deliveries over the next few weeks! :)
