Leonard Nimoy dies at 83

Foxbat, I think he was the only member of the pilot who made the cast of the show proper.

Odd to think The Original Series is about halfway between the present day and the end of World War One. There's a long (unsurprisingly) spiel at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2 about digital memory. People like Nimoy and characters like Spock will know a longevity perhaps only previously enjoyed by books and (occasionally) musicians/artists.

The passing of Leonard Nimoy is something that came as a shock. When it comes to iconic roles on tv there are few that can compare to Spock. Leonard Nimoy was a wonderful actor and director. So many actors can learn from his experience for how to handle being so closely identified with one character. The universe feels a little dimmer without him.

Well, can´t believe it still. I guess the characters of ST TOS were the ones that were some sort of constant in my life, as I started watching it at a age I did not even attend primary school and never grew out of it. (Though I´d been sometimes quite afraid when watching when I used to be a child.)
