Discussion Thread -- September 2014 75-word Writing Challenge

...now a talking shopping trolley, that would be something to see

This is a cool theme! I have a few ideas but one is quite dark and I'm not sure I want to go there with it....

I'm sure I will come up with something soon and post like the impatient man I am
 
Wonderful stories, all! Wow, 15 entries so far in under 2 days! It seems people are really digging the theme this month...it really is so much fun, and we are seeing such amazingly diverse stories...and we've still three weeks to go! :)

I feel guilty singling out any single story, but Victoria, yours is so beautifully written...I wish I could write like that.

Oh, and I'm in! Just a goofy little thing, but I tried really hard to meet the challenge criteria this month, and I think/hope at the least I succeeded there. Write on, everyone!! CC
 
I like yours, CC. Very fun. Nixie's too. Some great, lighthearted entries in the middle of some equally great darker ones. I already have so many favorites on day 2, I can see it's going to be a horrible month for voting!!!
 
Thank you so much, Juliana! Yours is terrific...the sense of terror the child is feeling is palpable...it's a very effective tale! Love the title. :)

You can borrow it if you like, it's squeaked into a first and second place, so it's got to have some value as a lucky charm at least. A pop of a light bulb going on over Bowler1's head... trolley bits for sale.
 
All the entries so far are brilliantly entertaining!!
In particular I really love yours, Juliana and Cat's Cradle, but for entirely different reasons ^_^
 
Michael Colton -- The author creates a memorable character in this tale of loyalty and sacrifice.

telford -- This sharply ironic story reminds us that all swords can be double-edged.

A. Fare Wells -- The matter-of-fact tone of this whimsical fantasy adds to its charm.

jimness -- The mythic tone of this prose poem creates an effectively somber mood.

nixie -- The reader is drawn into the fantastic world of this playful story.

ratsy -- The author creates a moving tragedy through powerful images.

Cat's Cradle -- This rollicking madcap comedy can be read as a subtle satire of social classes.

jastius -- This strikingly imaginative and creative story contains subtle concepts which reward rereading.

:) But DEO, what sort of human-sounding name could you give to an anthropomorphicalising ray gun...hmmm...ray Gun...hmm, a Ray Gunn with human-like characteristics...nope! I've got nothing!

Oy, does anyone ever have a problem transferring their stories from Word to the Chrons, for these challenges? The italics/bolding/etc don't carry over, and I missed italicizing one word in my posted story, when I did my add-backs here. And as a crazy fledgling writer I think, "Oh no! That one italicized word would have added depth and subtlety to the tale!". Fledgling writers must drive people crazy with their worries! :)
