Not so important connections

Sry, I think Stannis was planning on making it his headquarters. In fact, he may have already moved Selyse and Shireen into it. I imagine their little family at the Nightfort will resemble The Shining.

hahaha oh gods, I hope he will decide otherwise in the end. xD Especially since Shireen is a ticking bomb that could go off at any moment. If Nightfort is really doomed, I can see Grey Scale making a fast appearance again as Val had predicted it would. Two Grey Scale carriers. One in the South, the other one in the North and the Winter is coming.

Also, did anyone notice a staggering similarity between Brienne and Sansa in their dissimilarity?

And something I noticed before but hadn't mentioned. Does Jaime and Cersei's relationship remind anyone of the sub and dom kink like a lot?

Could you explain more about the Brienne and Sansa dis/similarity? I'm curious about that.

And yes, Jaime and Cersei do remind me of a sub/dom kink. ;)

Their naiveté. They both have a degree of a highly romanticised way of how certain things work (For Sansa, it is the world of poems. For Brienne, the knighthood. Brienne is rather idealising the tales of knighthood at times from what she knows about it regardless of the actual state just like Sansa does with the court and knights and ladies in the beginning.) Yet, they are total opposites. Sansa is all about being feminine. Brienne couldn't be farther from it.

IKR! Gosh, book 3 is so explicit on it. Like, Cersei is the sub who plays a pretend at not giving the control to her dom Jaime only to give in gladly in the end. Reluctant sub for an aggressive dom. I gave this way too much thought. XD

Yes, I totally agree with you on Sansa and Brienne. You're absolutely right. Thanks for the clarification. I've checked out mentally in preparation for the long weekend here.

And yes, I totally get the feeling that Cersei is the sub of the relationship, relishing Jaime taking power whenever he can. But subs technically have the power in the relationship also, so... perhaps their passive-aggressive relationship and the given sexual nature of their relationship is part (and only part, b/c there are many other reasons) of why Jaime gets so fed up with her.

Hahaha You are welcome.

Possibly. The sub holds the power to give power. The dom only has as much power as the sub allows. However, in her other sexual escapades, she is more of a Please-Me-Dom.

I don't recall this being mentioned, but do you guys think there is something more, something to be revealed about Nightfort? The number of alleged incidents there is significantly higher than anywhere else and the passage is there. Is the existance of passage perhaps connected with the incidents? I know it is a long shot, but just wondering.

Oh, and Summer disliked it.

I honestly hadn't given it much thought in regards to all the stories that were told about it, but it makes a kind of sense. maybe there is something to your theory. I wonder if that underground doorway will come back into the story in some significance, especially if Shireen and patchface are sent there. I can already imagine them going exploring and somehow opening the door. Arent there supposed to be some clan of cannible mole-people living in the caves on the other side?

I don't think Patchface and Shireen can open it. They hadn't taken the black last I recall.

As for cave peeps, Grendel's children.

No they haven't taken the black, but are you 100% sure that's the only way to open it? There are also nights watchmen, builders to be exact, at the nightfort as well, so who knows what might happen.

And yes, Grendel's children. perhaps another story will be added to the list of horrific stories. This is from a Wiki of Ice and Fire

The Nightfort is remembered in scary stories of the North, although doubtlessly many of them are false. It was there that the Night's King reigned before his name was wiped from the memory of man, and where the Rat Cook served the Andal king his prince-and-bacon pie, where the 79 sentinels stood their watch, where brave young Danny Flint had been raped and murdered, where King Sherrit had called down his curse of the Andals of old, where the apprentice boys had faced the thing that came in the night, where blind Symeon Star-Eyes had seen the hellhounds fight, and where Mad Axe had walked the yards and climbed the towers to butcher his brothers in the dark

the story of Mad Axe is pretty close to The Shining There is no evidence that he ever said "Here's Johnny" though.

while looking in to a couple of these stories, I have grown yet more respect for Wyman Manderly. If the boltons were at all clever, and not just devious basterds, they would have figured out what Wyman is up to. He has the singers sing about the Rat Cook after feeding the freys some frey pie, and he has the singers sing about brave young Danny Flint at "Arya's" wedding.

I can't wait for Wyman to make his real move, as he must be preparing for something!

Yes, it was outright stated that a Black Brother is needed.

hohoho Wyman is playing a dangerous game, but one that will definitely pay out. And he avoided slaying of the guest even if by a hair's breadth.xD

Was wondering if anyone thought High Sparrow could be Varys. IDK why, but something about him just screams Varys to me in this reread and I just can't shake it off.

he could be...

I think the High Sparrow was described as a small and slim man, which is something Varys cannot be accused of. Some people think the High Sparrow is Howland Reed, though i doubt it.

Well, there was a theory that Varys might be a FM... XD

Something I noticed. So, Mel once saw Bran and Bloodraven in the flames and had assumed them to be the Champions of the Great Other. However, in her request to Red God she asked him: "Show me your king, your instrument." I had always suspected that she had misinterpreted it, but mayhap Bran and Bloodraven are the instruments of Red God indirectly as they do serve his final purpose.

True. If the Great Other is responsible for the Others and the Wights, then there is no way Bran and Bloodraven are his instruments. I choose to believe that Bran is in service to the Old Gods and that Mel is wrong about Rolo being the only true god. It seems like she is wrong about everything else...

I know that the show isn't canon, and about the Faceless Men, but Jonathan Pryce has been cast as the High Sparrow. If Varys can look like him, we've been underestimating what Faceless Men can do.

I don't think her visions are wrong, she just misunderstands them.

What do you think is going to happen with Mel and Patchface, I find it interesting that the Patchface song, has now changed to Shireen in the TV series, which makes me think the Song/Poem has some important part to play.

Are we going to see a combined revival of Jon Snow?

In all honesty, I fee that Martin nerfed her ability a lot by her arrogance. She became too sure of herself so her precision is suffering.

Well, Kindly Man's transformations were already an indicator. Just remember his transformations when Arya comes to the House of Black and White for the first time.

Well, that is kinda the point. Them not being wrong. Just her misunderstanding them because she holds on to her beliefs so much.

In all honesty, nothing that is changed in the TV Show makes me think something more important. I just kinda ignore the show lately.

Same here. I still watch the show, but I feel like ever subsequent season is not as good as its predecessor. Still a good show, but not the best thing out there anymore. I don't think any big hints are going to come from the show.

I know what you mean. It is just that at first, I saw the point in majority of changes made like budget or simply not being translatable from the books. Then, I no longer could... Especially the last season. I don't think I'll be watching it anymore. What attracted me mostly was that it was a very good adaptation. As it isn't a very good adaptation anymore, I'm just not interested.
