Thanks for the mention and kind words, Teresa, and your vote for Parson I'm taking as a virtual vote for my not-written story, since that was my original theme, dammit! *determines to post before Parson next month*

I'm glad you saw the not-so-hidden thing, CC, and for Parson -- and anyone else who was puzzling -- Teresa has spilled the beans. I've simply used I N N O C E N C E to give me the initial letter of the first words of each line for all three non-verses.

My story started out quite different and was one of those that changed as I was writing it. As it was the idea was simply, in a future where chemicals and probes could determine whether someone was guilty or innocent by 'reading' the brain could someone beat the system, by effectively murdering someone but believing they had not done so. Our protagonist definitely was behind the killing, but by one little technicality really believed he had not killed the victim, thus escaping the reading.

The fact that I used the punch line from an old joke just seemed to work. (There is probably a longer story here waiting to be used!)

I seem to be plagiarising or deriving myself a a bit lately- my entry this month was (to my mind) set in the same playworld as the Cyberpunk, Changes 75 challenge of a while back, and I've said already that my 300 - When the Salmon Run - was trying for the same tone as Owen, Come Home from Jan 2013.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting to get any votes as I know my story was perhaps unclear as to what was going on, so I was delighted to have received the number of mentions and shortlists that I did.

When I read 'sci-fi' or 'fantasy' as the genre in these challenges, my blood chills, so I wasn't going to enter this month as I just had no clue, but the idea just popped up, fully formed a few weeks ago and I thought, ahhhhh, go on then :D

Thanks, everyone. Also, thanks to all those who entered this month. Winning wouldn't feel half as good if I wasn't up against such an amazing selection of stories.

I've already sent a genre and theme to the moderators, so now I'm just waiting to see if it gets accepted :)
