Snarkiness with a smile can be quite entertaining, sarcasm as well. 'Agruing' I don't know enough about, but it sounds interesting.

Sure, go ahead and make fun of my craptastic typing, see if I care :D

We continued our discussion via PM and IMO it was much more productive and positive than what I've seen when people try to do the same thing in public.

Thank you too Wiggum! I think you nailed it! I know she really was upset but I work 2 days at her home, 3 days at another, then 2 days off. Total coincidence I got that call on day 4 away from her? Probably not!

Just a quick update, With an assist from The Imp (Thanks again!) the proper version of the audio book AFFC has been purchased and delivered! Here's hoping Miss Elise can cope with all the new characters
 
Okay I know I've not chimed in for a long time here, but just came back and read all of this thread and wanted to say a few things:

1) CONGRATULATIONS, NEEDLE!!!!! WOO-HOO! Might I add that with your new title of RN, your screenname has a new layer of irony!

2) Miss Elise, I love her. And I could've used Needle, RN after reading about the Red Wedding for the first time, too!

3) If the Red Wedding distressed her so much and made her as angry with GRRM (over Arya) as it made me, I'm afraid it's only going to get worse. I spent pretty much all of AFFC utterly and completely furious with Mr. Martin. He's redeeming himself regarding Arya.....somewhat. But I'm watching you, George! *shakes fist*

4) Working for an elderly care home is probably one of the toughest, most heart-wrenching jobs in the world. My husband worked for a time for a company that delivered oxygen tanks to homebound elderly. Most of his customers were people forgotten by their family and his weekly visit was the only steady human contact they had. He had to leave that job after a year because the strain of becoming close to them, realizing how lonely and isolated they felt, and subsequently losing them....it was all too much for him to bear emotionally. My hat's off to you, m'lady. I firmly believe what you do is a calling.

Thanks for the congrats. I can breathe for a while now!

Miss Elise is indeed one of the lucky ones, when it comes to AGOT it is Nurse Needle she wants!, but she has a daughter and her bestest grandson who visit every few days. So many of my residents have no one or worse someone who gets their elders checks sent to them and I end having to buy them socks when i discover they don't wear any because they don't have any. It is very rewarding but as you said very difficult. I have lost 4 in the last 3 weeks, I intend to hang in there as long as I can though!

Hello all, been too long since I gave you all an update, Sorry!!

Miss Elise has finished AFFC and is about 1/2 way through ADWD. She was not really crazy about AFFC (I can understand!) but it was saved from her view by Victarion (who she loves!) says she has a weak spot for Viking men! From the pictures in her room of her late husband, he could be my picture of Victarion!

Her other love now is the Sand Snakes! She can't make up her mind who she likes best (usually it is Nym).

Her only comments on ADWD so far have been bad! Not happy with Dany at all! "Locking up her babies? Thought she was learning, now I think she is getting stupidier (her word!) by the minute!"

What made me remember to post again is that yesterday was her 87th B-day for which she got: new pj's, a new comforter and season 1 of AGoT on DVD! She is over the moon! I won't see her again for at least a week (am only part there now) but her response should be interesting for sure, will see how all the sex scenes sit with her!
 
SPOILER:

When she gets to the end of ADWD, be sure to tell her that Victarion has at least one chapter in TWoW. (GRRM read it out at Eastercon.)
 
Thanks for the update Needle. I'm glad Miss Elise is doing well, and I think many people will agree with her sentiments about AFfC and parts of ADwD too. Though I think the second half of Dance got much better, so I hope she hangs in there.

I can't help but smile at the idea of a lady in her late 80s watching the sex scenes. Oh well, I'm sure she's seen it all before!

Do wish her a belated happy birthday from all at the Chron. :)
