Who else has finished The Crippled God? - Probable Spoilers

Finally finished it about 3am last night... and subsequently slept through my alarm this morning and was late for work, but boy was it worth it! I always knew that it was never going to wrap up all the loose ends - not unless it was twice as long - but overall I thought it was a fitting end to arguably the most epic fantasy series ever.

Just finished the Cripple God. Absolutely fantastic series. Difficult to understand at times but was worth the effort figuring things out.

I found myself to be pretty sad by the fact that their is no more to come.

Does anyone know much about what is to come from Mr Erikson? I've heard there are 2 trilogies in the pipeline, one on Kharkanus and the other on the toblakai but thats it. I'm speculating that the Kharkanus trilogy will be about the fall of the city prior to the malazan series and I am hoping that the Toblakai series will involve Karsa Orlong whopping ass but suspect it will again be a prequil

I was thinking the same thing today.

I'd also like to see journey's involving Crokus and Apsalar.

Just finished reading the book, absolutely brilliant!

I have just read the whole series for the first time from start to finish (including Esslemonts books) and I find myself walking around in a semi daze....so many incredible characters, so many hilarious duo's, so many twists and turns, so many incredible battles, so many heartbreaking moments (the end of DHG still leaves my throat dry every time I think about it)....I can honestly go on and on and on!

And now I too find myself struggling to get into the next Authors work that I have selected (Greg Keyes). It's definately nothing to do with the Author of the book it's just that I can't get the Malazan Empire out of my mind!
I just want to pick up Korbal & Bauchelain Broach and start right from the beginning again, especially knowing that there is so much I just wasn't able to truly absorb from reading the entire series right through in one go!

It's a great relief to know that there are another 9 books (including 3 from Esslemont) that will be coming out in the future plus there is still so much that has been left uncompleted from the 10 book series itself which fingers crossed will become future novels in their own right.

I just can't say enough about this incredible work of art and want to thank Erikson and Esslemont from the bottom of my heart for choosing to put their imagination on to paper and allowing me to travel this incredible universe!!

I saved reading DOD until TCP was published and just finished reading both back to back last week while I sunned myself on a beach in Spain. What a finale to the series. Sure there were things that annoyed and puzzled me, but overall I was satisfied with how the series ended.

A few things that had me scratching my head were ;

1. Sinn and Grub. What was the point of them at the end. Their storyline sort of fizzled out for me.

2. Hetan. Why bring her back? It sort of made her suffering and the demise of the Senan clan irrelevant. Dead is dead!

3. I wanted more from the meeting of Tavore and Ganoes. It felt kind of rushed for two of the pivotal characters in the series.

4. I WANT TO KNOW QUICK BEN IS.

5. Fist Blistig. That man should have being executed. There is no way he should have got away with what he did and there is not a chance that soldiers would have stood in a battle line for him.


Yet there were so much more to enjoy. Corabb's last stand over the body of the Crippled God was fantastic and also the appearance of a 'Scottish' Nefarius Bredd. I am going to miss the Bridgeburners and the Bonehunters.

1.Sinn was there to assist grub in becoming ever more awesome whilst bringing a tragic death to Stormy (was it stormy?). Grub is hinted at becoming the future emperor of the malazan empire, and the living embodiment of the bonehunters, and the soldiers of the malazan empire in general.

4. Whilst much is know about QuickBen he ultimately remains a mystery. I like that, though i do feel he seemed somwhat absent in the last book, especially with his claim to have succeeded in his promise to Burn, he did a few things but i was expecting more.

5. Well, in regards to Blistig few actually know i think what he did, and lets face it they needed every able bodied man, let alone officer at the time.

I've finished The Crippled God - another brilliant read! However, Eriksons writing has made some other books seem quite tame and too easy to read.

LOTS OF SPOILERS HERE - RE END OF CRIPPLED GOD

Can someone sum up the plot hatched by Shadowthrone and Cotillion that's resolved at the end of this series? I'm not sure I can.

From what I gather, the whole idea was a way to ensure the Crippled God was safely dealt with. So they come up with this plan leading ultimately to having him re-assembled (so to speak) and then murder him, enabling his spirit to fly away among his worshippers. Then away they all go in their jade spaceships, never to harass this world again.

Reading that back it sounds like nonsense, lol, but I can't do any better. Someone else?

Where do the three dragons attached to Silchas Ruin's sword come in, and why were they needed? I guess to help Korabas stay alive long enough for Heboric to capture her - the final act required to free the crippled god's spririt? Interesting that Silchas didn't free them afterwards as he'd promised them; maybe Cotillion predicted that would be Silchas' choice, so he could promise the dragons their freedom and not be blamed when it didn't happen.

I'm still missing how the moon was broken, and whether it's anything to do with the jade comets.

Seems the Malazan wiki has a different take on it, in the entry for "Kaminsod" that sheds some light for me on what happened:

After the battle ended, Kaminsod gave up his chains in order to bind the Otataral Dragon, saving magic and stopping the Eleint from running loose in the Malazan world. He was subsequently stabbed in the back by Cotillion. It is unclear whether this act freed him to return to his own world, or slew him on the spot.

1. Sinn did plenty, with Grub doing little beside keeping her in check. I think he has deliberately been left blank.
2. I'd have preferred Hetan to have survived somehow, rather than be resurrected. I felt Toolan got too much of a fairytale ending.
3. Tavore is tragic to the end. I'd also hoped for more for her.
4. I think I found a hint that Quick Ben is offspring of Mother Dark.
5. The soldiers didn't stand for Blistig: they had their own reasons to stand, despite him.

I assumed that Silchas DID free the three dragons. Their origin is explained in Kharkanas, although I can't recommend that work of horror.

Quick Ben became a key member of Mother Dark's court (I can't remember which named member of her deck he finished as) but he's not her child. He had a hard road to walk being ascended like the rest of the bridge burners but still being alive. Remember that by his own telling he wasn't a great master until he took on the souls of the other 11 mages in their original flight from the Bridgeburners across the desert. It was only after and because of that that he could grow into what he became by the end of the series. It's tempting to think he was always special, but apart from suggestions that he's the second brightest man alive after Erikson's cipher, Kruppe, (which is no small thing) he started off as an acolyte like everyone else

For me the entire plot that was wrapped up was undoing the disaster of bringing the crippled god to the Malazan world in the first place. Shadowthrone and Cotillion worked out what had caused it then worked out how to play ALL the players in that drama to undo it so he could go back home along with the spirits of his worshippers from his own world whose arrival would have destroyed the world of the Malazans.

I also think they were the first humans to work out how magic worked and to understand that it was the body of another power who provided their magic.
